The
Two-Day MapAware Training Workshop |
|
Who
is it for?
|
The
workshop is for adults who need to use maps and other spatial information
more effectively for better decision making.
Although developed to support sustainable development and land
reform, this workshop can be adapted to meet the needs of any training
environment including geography educators.
|
|
What
is it?
|
Following
the orientation of the local vertical aerial photograph on the morning of
the first day, participants are involved in a number of learning
activities and practical exercises using maps at various scales.
The geographic themes of landscape, rural and urban settlement and
transport are illustrated using a specially designed training map, 3D
model and video. On the
second day we look at the geographical co-ordinate system and exact
location. The final session is dedicated to the application of maps and
photographs to client specific needs, e.g. establishing boundaries for
Land Reform projects, evaluating the landscape for Working for Water
projects, alternative strategies in the continuous use of spatial
information in the classroom for educators, etc.
